By the time Guts and the adult members of the Band of Hawks come to rescue him, Griffith has been rendered mute and crippled from a year of being tortured. Griffiths band frees him. But soon becomes apparent that he will never truly recover from what had happened. Never would he charm another person. For he could not speak. Never would he lead the charge. For he would not walk. Never would he fight. For he could not grip his sword. His goal, his dream. Was now forever beyond his reach. Griffith an do nothing now. And when his allies bring him to a near by lake. He makes his choice. For everything and everybody who died for him was pointless. It is at this point, that griffith turns to suicide. When Griffith tries to end his life upon realizing that he can not longer fulfill his dream in his ruin state, Something most unlikely happens....
While trying to cut his neck on a sharp stone. He stumbles upon something. As if destined to be reunited. It was his "good luck" charm. His Behelit that had been thrown down the drain had returned to him. The behelit had always been destined to answer him at his lowest. The blood from torture gradually reached the egg. And upon this action. Everything that had occured has aligned. Griffith was given a choice. Be what he was now. A nothing. Or sacrifice all of his soldiers, allies and friends to ascend beyond a mere man. Elevate himself to be a king. Griffith made his choice. Though he could not speak. He mouthed the words.
